Furness Abbey image

Furness Abbey is a former monastery that dates back to 1123. second wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in England.

Today English Heritage is working to stop the Abbey from sinking into the ground as after 500 years the timber foundations are finally giving way.

The Abbey is open to the public throughout the year and from April 2014 the incredible and magnificent Abbot's crozier and ring that discovered on the site in 2010 will be exhibited at the Abbey.
