Laphroaig Distillery

Isle Of Islay Category Food and Drink, For Adults
 Laphroaig Distillery image

Every year thousands of Laphroaig devotees come to visit us, drink in the atmosphere, learn a few of our secrets and share a dram or two with us afterwards. However, whilst our isolation in Islay has enabled us to maintain the ancient traditions of whisky making, we also recognise that for many of you the journey may be impossible – at least for now.

To allow you enjoy the distillery, wherever you are, we’ve created a virtual distillery tour. You can see the entire process of the making of Laphroaig, including areas that the ‘standard’ tour never goes to, for instance our peat beds. The tour is available in sections, so you can skip to the area of the distillery you’re most interested in or you can join John Campbell for the whole tour, from start to finish.

Your tour will last approximately 200 years! Well, at least that’s the length of time that our ancient distillery has been used for distilling and we hope you will be able to appreciate how timeless and unique Laphroaig is in our modern world.

Visitor Centre

Drop past the visitor centre to learn more about Laphroaig’s history in our museum, relax in the lounge with a dram, browse our gift shop or take time to chat with our Laphroaig hosts.

Flavour Tasting

With an experienced Laphroaig Host, take time in our Friends of Laphroaig lounge, to learn how to explore the flavours in your dram with the addition of food. Your host will leisurely guide you through 3 drams while discussing your experiences of the flavours that are revealed. This experience does not include a tour of the facilities and will last around 45 minutes. If you would like to tour the distillery, please select the 14:00 tour to connect with this experience. Must be booked 30 minutes prior to start time.

Distillers Wares

With an experienced Laphroaig Host enjoy a tour of the distillery from the malting through to maturation stages. In our warehouse enjoy a guided tasting with samples straight from a selection of casks. Using a valinch, you will then be able to bottle your favourite cask to take home to enjoy. This experience will last approximately 2 hours.

Water to Whisky Experience

The most involved whisky experience available. After meeting at the distillery to put on your wellies (provided), this experience will start with a walk to the water source for Laphroaig where you will enjoy a picnic lunch with a dram of Laphroaig cut, if you wish, with the source water. A short drive will then take you to the peat banks where you will be challenged to cut some peat by hand before being awarded your next dram. Back at the distillery the malt on the floor will need turned and the fire stoked before visiting the rest of the distillery. In warehouse 1 the whisky will be waiting! Taste from a selection of casks before using a valinch to bottle your favourite. This experience is guided by a Laphroaig Host who will share Laphroaig stories and secrets along the way. This experience will last around 4.5 hours.
