Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway image

We operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars, with some steam hauled services on the short branch between Wirksworth and Ravenstor.

The Ecclesbourne Valley is one of Derbyshire’s most lovely and unspoilt valleys, stretching from the northern outskirts of Derby, at Duffield, to Wirksworth, an ancient market town known as the Gem of the Peak. By taking the train to the line’s far northern terminus at Ravenstor (on its own little branch line from Wirksworth) those of you who like fresh air and a pleasant uphill ramble can join the High Peak Trail, from where there are nearly twenty miles of traffic-free paths into the heart of the Peak District. From this same destination at Ravenstor, you are just a few minutes’ walk from the National Stone Centre and the Steeple Grange Light Railway, and close to Middleton Top Visitor Centre and the Black Rocks picnic area.

The delightful town of Wirksworth offers a variety of cosy pubs, bistros, cafes and traditional shops, with a regular market on Tuesdays, a Farmer’s Market on the first Saturday of each month and a fine Heritage Centre open in the summer months.

Pullman Tuesday Tea & Train

Every Tuesday at Wirksworth Station you may take a traditional Afternoon Tea in our Pullman Coaches at Wirksworth Station rounded off by a short 15 minute train ride to Ravenstor on one of our heritage trains.

Afternoon Tea served at 2:45pm consists of:

• A selection of sandwiches
• Scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve
• Assortment of Afternoon Tea pastries and cakes
• Pot of tea or coffee with a selection of Twinnings exotic teas

After taking Afternoon Tea in the Pullman at Wirksworth your short train ride will depart from the adjacent platform at 15:53 to return at 16:05.

Seats at the Pullman tables are arranged in twos and fours making an ideal intimate environment.

If you would like to arrive at the Pullman by train from Duffield or take a leisurely return journey afterwards, a £10.00 supplement ticket can be purchased when booking.

N.B. Full line return supplement not available in March.
