The Embankment has become one of the premier spots in the heart of Bedford and has wonderful views out over the River Great Ouse, the boathouses and the hustle and bustle of life on the river.
It was built in 1891 and has been renovated to reflect its late Victorian heyday, but with all the modern comforts and facilities of a great pub. The atmosphere is relaxed and hospitable and there is no stuffy hotel lobby or residents’ lounge, just a team of friendly faces to look after you.
Their head chef and his skilled brigade devise their seasonal menus and a range of tempting daily specials. As well as celebrating the increasingly-vibrant British food culture, the focus is on seasonal ingredients sourced locally wherever possible.
All of their meat is British and of the highest quality, from Aubrey Allen. This 80 year-old Warwickshire butcher supplies many of Britain’s finest restaurants as well as holding HM - The Queen’s Royal Warrant. Their steaks are from Britain’s finest beef herds, 28-day dry-aged for stupendous flavour. Their Cotswold White chickens are free-range, as are the eggs, pork and ice-cream. Their lamb is Cornish and the fish native where possible, and the pub follows the ever-changing advice on sustainability.
As well as serving their full menu at lunch and dinner, they have hot fresh food available throughout the day. Starting with eggs and fresh sourdough bread for breakfast, accompanied by quality Union coffee. They also serve cakes and a range of sandwiches and light hot dishes whenever you need them.
