The Grosvenor Arms is newly refurbished, traditional yet stylish, relaxed yet ‘buzzy’, and open all day.
This pub is the heartbeat of the famous Dorset hilltop market town of Shaftesbury and has been an inn since Medieval times. The original timber framed building was a busy coaching inn, originally The Red Lion, it was bought by the Grosvenor family and re-named The Grosvenor Arms in 1820. Shaftesbury, famous as ‘Shaston’ in Thomas Hardy’s novels, has long been known as the gateway to the South West. It is well positioned on the edge of the historic Cranborne Chase, the most beautiful of English Countryside. The famous Gold Hill is but 100m away, and within striking distance are many historic houses, gardens, museums and even Stonehenge.
Drop in at any time to eat at their bar, enjoy brunch, a muffin or brownie in the conservatory - they also serve great coffee and specialist loose leaf teas.
Their relaxed restaurant serves the finest ingredients, simple, but whenever possible, seasonal, local, wild and organic. The wood oven produces the best thin crust pizzas, and the most delicious slow cooked shoulder of pork. Take your choice to sit at either oak tables in the Conservatory, a relaxed zinc topped table in the deli or the most comfortable leather banquettes in the restaurant.
The bar is warm, wood-panelled and relaxed, serving local beers, wines, a variety of Bloody Marys and some mean cocktails. ‘Happy Hour’ runs from 5pm – 8pm during which they offer 2 cocktails for £10. They are proud of their wine list which is well priced and eclectic and they know many of their producers, holding several wine tastings through the year. Sit in a cosy leather armchair, perch by the fountain in the courtyard or enjoy some sun in the Conservatory.
The Grosvenor Arms has 16 stunning bedrooms. Each one is beautifully appointed and furnished, decorated in a style appropriate to one of Shaftesbury’s oldest inns, but complete with the modern facilities you would expect. All of these bedrooms have large double or king beds with 100% cotton linen, en-suite bathrooms, Tassimo coffee machines, iPod docks, flatscreen TV's and WiFi. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, garden and to stay in the bedrooms at a charge of £10 per dog per stay.
Guests can also relax in their hotel room and enjoy a one hour classic facial with their resident facialist. Cocooned in gorgeous towels and a soft blanket the relaxing music, scented candles and the luxury Swiss facial skin care range will leave you feeling glowing and revitalised. They offer the choice of warming sandalwood for men.
There are also three separate private rooms which can be hired for celebrations, private dinners or meetings at this wonderful pub.
