Independently owned and run since 2003, you'll be looked after by a well-established team of professional individuals. A proper bar and an open dining room, a snug oak panelled lounge and three open fires, exposed timbers, thick beams and meandering floors, it’s easy to be cosseted in this ancient inn. In the shadow of St Mary’s Church tower, a terrace to admire our Elizabethan staircase, a walled garden to let kids and dogs loose, to sit back and ponder a route to the cottage of Willy Lot.
Their rooms are £145 per room per night year round. A fully cooked breakfast is included in the rate. Our beds vary in size and style but all have high quality pocket sprung mattresses. Pillows and duvets are made by Brinkhaus and fine Egyptian cotton dress the beds. Each room has a Samsung HD Digital TV with Freeview, Roberts Digital Radio with iPod dock and CD slot. Their tea trays are made up with Jing Tea, proper ground coffee, flapjacks and mineral water. Each bathroom has bath robes and lovely Miller Harris toiletries. There are also hair dryers, ironing boards, newspapers with breakfast and of course Free Wi-Fi.
Food & Drink
Indulge in food influenced by season, locally sourced and convivially served. Day boat wild Sea bass from Mersea, their own pies, pastry and bread and rare breed beef and pork. Dedham grown salads, herbs and asparagus delivered straight from the field. Buttermilk pudding with rhubarb, dark chocolate torte with hazelnut ice cream. Home made jams at breakfast, freshly baked scones for afternoon tea, biscotti with coffee or tea.
They serve a range of drinks from craft beer, stout and cider to eclectic wine, mulled wine at Christmas, cocktails whatever the hour, Elderflower or Gooseberry presse, spicy ginger beer.
Two Suffolk lagers, Black Isle Stout, Suffolk cyder and of course real ale – permanent listings of Adnam’s Broadside and Crouch Vale’s Brewer’s Gold alongside ever-changing guests from small independent craft breweries around the country. A one hundred bin wine list from old and new world alike with 20 available by the glass including fizz.
Discover nature, history and landscape along the banks of the Stour and through Dedham's vale. Hire cycles, go boating on the Stour, we can make you picnics or just amble back for afternoon tea. Village beauty salons or golf courses nearby, riding and other restaurants to eat in. Further afield there's Lavenham and Long Melford for antiques and more, or beaches and sea at Frinton and Mersea.
