Details

An award winning pub that prides itself on offering a friendly and efficient service; showcasing the best of local produce as well as stocking an extensive range of wines and cask ales.

The Durham Ox is a traditional 300-year old pub, family owned for the last twelve years. They are situated in the historic village of Crayke, North Yorkshire, with breath-taking views over the vale of York on three sides, and a charming view up the hill to the medieval Church. Crayke is less than 25 minutes from York City Centre and in the heart of Herriot Country.

An award winning traditional pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams, oak panelling and roaring fires in winter. For those wishing for over-night accommodation there are five converted farm cottages that provide a peaceful and charming place to stay and the converted Studio Suite located above the pub and a self catering cottage.

The Durham Ox embraces the principle of good food in relaxed surroundings and theyhave always endeavoured to use the freshest and best of ingredients, bought locally. The a la carte menu celebrates a fabulous array of locally sourced meats, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood. As the seasons change so do the menus, to reflect the wealth of local produce for which this area is renowned. They also make all their own bread and petit fours. With a special dessert & cocktail menu for a truly fabulous finish to any meal.

Their various blackboard dishes complement the menus, with fish or meat dishes they may not be able to source on a regular basis. Game & seafood dishes are firm favourites as well as asparagus, wild garlic & wild mushrooms – all dependent on the seasons and availability.

All the bedrooms are individually designed whether the renovated farm cottages or The Studio Suite within the main Ox building. These are generous, comfortable relaxed spaces offering country style chic in a rural setting. Every room has a television, tea and coffee tray, hair dryer, individually controlled heating and L'Occitane products are provided in all of the rooms.

Breakfast is served from 8 am - 9:30 am Monday to Friday and 8 am - 10 am Saturday and Sunday. Please do let them know in advance if you require breakfast outside of these times. All of the accommodation is dog friendly apart from our Studio Suite.
