The dog-friendly George and Dragon is a traditional 17th Century coaching inn, located in the pretty village of Aysgarth in the heart of the stunning Yorkshire Dales.
Perfectly situated for exploring the splendour of the rolling Dales, the George and Dragon has been welcoming travellers for nearly 300 years. A traditional pub, the bar area is adorned with brasses and copper pots hanging from the ceiling creating a relaxed and old-world atmosphere. Soak up the warmth from the open fire in the winter months, or enjoy the views of Pen Hill from the flower bedecked terrace, either will recharge your batteries and de-stress you.
An excellent range of locally brewed ales included those from the Black Sheep Brewery and the Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company is on offer at the bar, all served in tip top condition. There’s also a thoughtful wine list available, serving wines from all around the world.
The menu is robust with plenty of favourites including homemade steak and ale pie and Black Sheep beer battered fish and chips. Wholesome and hearty, there’s plenty to satisfy your hunger after a busy day spent exploring the area.
The 7 rooms are all en-suite and offer excellent value for money. If you’re staying with your dog, you’ll be pleased to hear that one room is dog friendly; just check when booking and be aware that there may be a small, additional fee. All the rooms are charmingly decorated in a traditional style – there are even a couple of four-poster beds for a touch of added glamour.
Aysgarth is an excellent place to base yourself at if you’re visiting the Dales. The renowned Aysgarth Falls is within walking distance although you can park at the National Park Centre if you’re conserving energy. The countryside surrounding the village offers some of the best walking and cycling in the UK and you won’t need to venture far to take in some breath-taking views and typical Dales scenery.
