Details

This 17th Century inn offers the best of all worlds: a rural Cotswold village setting but close to the bustle of Oxford, Woodstock, Bicester Village and Blenheim Palace.

It has a cosy-contemporary interior with a much loved bar; highly rated food and relaxing, stylish bedrooms.

The Killingworth Castle has gone from strength to strength since reopening in the autumn of 2012, picking up numerous awards and glowing reviews for its innovative yet accessible approach to high-end cuisine and its discreet yet welcoming ambience. This pub has been serving the good people of Oxfordshire since 1637. Their illustrious regulars have included the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, who'd drop in when staying at his birthplace, the nearby Blenheim Palace.

Eating here is a treat and the talented kitchen team capitalises on organic produce, having recently only joined 12 other pubs in the UK to be certified 3 stars organic by the Soil Association (one of the others being their sister pub, The Ebrington Arms near Chipping Campden). Expect "foodie heaven" from the team that won its second AA Rosette in 2019. Although there's an emphasis on dining, Claire and Jim have been careful to preserve a proper pub ambience with exposed-stone arches, wooden floors and crackling fires with friendly locals around the bar.

Jim and Claire have also focused their love of quality ale and local production to craft their own range of fine organic beers. The Yubberton Brewing Co. was born of their frustration at pubs stocking beers that could also be found in supermarkets. (For further details about these Cotswold craft ales please search Yubberton Brewing Co).

Their 8 refurbished bedrooms offer rural peace. Situated in a separate stable block, they have retro furnishings, handmade shutters and handmade wooden beds. Some rooms have rolltop baths and vaulted ceilings and two are dog friendly (rooms 3 & 4). Bathrooms are richly coloured; with roll-top tubs, organic toiletries and complimentary sherry and homemade shortbread on arrival.

For the best room rates please phone or e mail the pub directly. Please mention Stay in a Pub in your correspondence.

In 2007 Jim and Claire purchased and renovated The Ebrington Arms, a village inn that had been serving the good people of Ebrington since the 1640s. This stunning pub is also listed on our website - please enter GL55 6NH in our search engine.

The Cotswolds are world-renowned for their outstanding natural beauty, beguiling stately homes and quirky rural attractions and events. Situated at the gateway to the Cotswolds the pub is the perfect base for visiting Blenheim Palace. Please click the "Things to Do" tab for activities in the local area - all of which can be accessed within a short drive or walk of the pub.
