This 17th Century inn offers the best of all worlds: a rural Cotswold village setting; a cosy-contemporary interior with a much loved bar; highly rated food and relaxing stylish bedrooms.
The Killingworth Castle has gone from strength to strength since reopening in the autumn of 2012, picking up numerous awards and glowing reviews for its innovative yet accessible approach to high-end cuisine and its discreet yet welcoming ambience. This pub has been serving the good people of Oxfordshire since 1637. Their illustrious regulars have included the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, who'd drop in when staying at his birthplace, the nearby Blenheim Palace. Other famous faces include racing drivers from the nearby Renault Formula 1 garage as well as David Cameron and his family.
Eating here is a treat and the talented kitchen team capitalises on Cotswold produce – their menus are divided into ‘pub classics’ and seasonal mains all bursting with local flavour. Although there’s an emphasis on dining, Claire and Jim have been careful to preserve a proper pub ambience with exposed-stone arches, wooden floors and crackling fires.
Jim and Claire have also focused their love of quality ale and local production to craft their own range of fine beers. The Yubberton Brewing Co. was born of their frustration at pubs stocking beers that could also be found in supermarkets. (For further details about these Cotswold craft ales please search Yubberton Brewing Co).
Their 8 recently refurbished bedrooms offer rural peace. Situated in a separate stable block, they have retro furnishings, handmade shutters, handmade wooden beds, bright cushions and cream walls. With comfy chairs you can bunker down with a book – there’s an eclectic range of reading material as well as tea and coffee, homemade brownies and a small decanter of sherry. Bathrooms are richly coloured; with roll-top tubs, Eco Boutique shampoo and artisan soap from the Little Soap Company in Broadway.
